Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a holistic therapy that involves the insertion of ultra fine filiform needles into specific pressure points along the body. It has been shown to help strengthen the immune system, prevent disease, control pain, and improve the quality of life. Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing with a history of approximately 5000 years.
A traditional explanation of how acupuncture works is that your body is composed of pathways or “meridians” which energy or “Qi” flows through. When these pathways become obstructed, deficient, or imbalanced, your health is disrupted, leading to pain and illness. Acupuncture promotes the healthy flow of Qi through the insertion of very thin filiform needles into specific points on the body.
From a western explanation, many physiological changes to the body can be observed during an Acupuncture treatment. There is an increase in white blood cells, antibody and prostaglandin levels increase, endorphins are secreted throughout the body, and there is noted increase in circulation through the relaxation of vasodilators. All of this combined initiates an immune response that helps target the cause of discomfort and pain.
Acupuncture sessions will usually begin with an initial consultation in which your practitioner will go through a thorough health history. After this, a typical acupuncture session will include a check in, noting any changes you have noticed since your last treatment. Patients will then typically lye on the massage table (unless mobility or health issues prevent this, in which case we will find the most comfortable position for you to relax in while the needles are in) and the practitioner will use one or a few modalities. These may include massage which is known as Tuina in Chinese medicine, cupping, scraping (also known as gua sha), moxibustion, acupuncture, electro acupuncture, and ear needles or seeds. Your practitioner may also suggest some dietary modifications.

Massage Therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints.
Massage therapy helps alleviate the soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain conditions. If employed early enough after accidents involving trauma and injury, massage therapy can greatly reduce the development of painful muscular patterning.
All of our massage therapists at Jade Wellness are registered massage therapists (RMT) and treatments provided by RMTs are covered under most extended health benefits plans. Depending on your particular plan, you may be able to receive reimbursement for all or part of the fee incurred. We offer direct billing at Jade for your convenience.
If you have any further questions about massage therapy please don’t hesitate to contact us at 250-837-3900 or by email:contact@jadewellness.co

Chinese Herbal Medicine
HERBAL CONSULTATION 30 MINS $85
Chinese Herbal Medicine is an ancient system of health care that has undergone continual development over the centuries.
Chinese herbs are mainly plant based, but some preparations include minerals or animal products. They can be packaged in their whole form with which a patient would “decoct” or cook them at home. This would result with a liquid which will be drunk over a period of a day or up to a few days. They may also come in powders, tablets, capsules, pastes, or lotions depending on the herb and its intended use. The most common way to take herbs is in the powder form. In this instance, you would mix the powder with hot water and drink it like a tea up to 3 times a day. The duration of time that one may expect to take herbs for any given health concern can vary from a week to several months depending on the condition, its history and severity.
Different herbs have different properties and these properties can be enhanced or manipulated depending on their combination. They are intended to balance particular parts of the body. Prescribing a particular herb or concoction of herbs will depend on the patient’s particular constitution and often will vary according to the individual, not necessarily the condition.
Your practitioner may suggest herbs to support your healing during your acupuncture treatment or assessment or you may schedule an appointment for an herbal consult without acupuncture. You can expect the herbs to cost between $35-$50 for 10 days worth of herbs.
Chiropractic
INITIAL APPOINTMENT 60 MINS $105
SUBSEQUENT APPOINTMENT 15-20 MINS $65
Chiropractors practice primarily using their hands, providing diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints.
Chiropractors use a combination of treatments, depending on the specific needs of the individual patient. After taking a history, performing an examination and establishing a diagnosis, a chiropractor can develop and carry out a comprehensive treatment/management plan, recommend therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies, and provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling.
One of the most common therapies a chiropractor uses is spinal manipulative therapy (SMT), which can comprise a variety of adjustment techniques. Specific training in SMT allows chiropractors to provide highly-skilled and precise adjustments to the vertebrae of the spine, correcting joint motion to restore proper movement and improve function.
For many conditions, such as low back pain, chiropractic care is the primary method of treatment. When a multi-disciplinary approach is advisable, a chiropractor will coordinate care with other health care professionals. Where other conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical or other treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition.
Chiropractic care may also be used to provide symptomatic relief for patients with chronic conditions.
